How does a virtual terminal work?
A virtual terminal is required if your business has to receive payments via phone, mail, fax, or in person from your computer. There are two types of card payments: card present and card not present. When a customer does not physically present their card to the merchant or use it in-store, it is known as a card not present (CNP) transaction. Payments made via the internet, telephone, mail or mobile are all considered as CNP transactions. A virtual terminal is necessary especially in a card not present scenario.
You may receive order and card details from customers by mail, telephone fax, in person or by any other means of communication. All you have to do is
- Login to your virtual terminal application via a phone, tablet or a computer
- Enter the payment information directly into your merchant console.
It will then go through the process of requesting authorization from the customer’s bank. If approved, you will then receive the confirmation that the payment was completed successfully.
